I have been able to run The Sims 3 on my laptop (which had Windows 8 initially, but was recently updated to 8.1) just fine. Even though the game doesn’t actually have 8/8.1 support, it should still run fine, providing that it is up to date and your computer is good enough to run it.

Only The Sims Medieval has problems with Windows 8 if you have version 2.0 and/or Pirates & Nobles. If you have the Steam version, it also won’t work. EA has fixed this in the Origin release so if you downloaded Medieval from Origin, it will work.
