Eventually the only thing that worked was to buy it on Steam. Pro gloria Imperi! If you have the dvd case left from when you bought it you can register the game by the Key code in Steam. I had to write the code in word first and then copy paste it into steam, because it didn’t accept the key strokes. Then I now have a Steam downloaded Rome TW 1!

I have Rome Total War Anthology (includes BI and Alexander). I un-installed all of the games, reinstalled just Rome Total War and cannot find a ‘Preferences’ folder. There are two fixes that work, both suggested by Microsoft (not related to the posters problem).

Well steam helps with promotion and I heard it also helps protect against piracy. And no it’s not making total war lose players, in fact there’s more total war fans than ever before. Also, I’ve never had to download a 12gb patch for anything requiring steam. Shogun 2 was around 12gb to download the whole game.

Steam is **** and Total war is losing a lot of players because it isn’t possible to keep up with Steam requirements. What happended to buying a game in the store and going home to play it!!
