Try forming the group and then plan the event and invite the group members as guests too. Or just let three of your playable characters dance but make sure that you invited your household members to the party as guests.

In my opinion, this expansion pack is worth it just for Windenburg and all the new build mode items. They are spectacular! But the clubs are great when you are playing challenges and really need your Sims to get a jump leveling up those skills quickly.
