Talk with him; once the hearts by his dialogue fill to 5 total, the text will say this wolf has become your mate, and you can name him. Then the second quest, finding a den and rearing pups, will be unlocked for you to play.

You’ll have to become a good hunter before you can persuade another wolf to become your mate! Winter is coming to Amethyst Mountain, so it’s time to start looking for a mate. Now that you are a good hunter, you’ll find other dispersal wolves who also left their family pack in search of a mate.

Because there are no defined mates in the multiplayer experience, pups’ coats are generated according to the participating players’ coat selections. Hunt and eat extra to fill up your growing pups! Soon they will also eat meat from your kills. Protect your young from dangerous predators who are looking for an easy meal or to eliminate future competition. Socialize and play with your pups to build pack affinity.
