First create one staircase and place a railing on it. Then create a new staircase right next to it and place the same railing on the new set of stairs. When you delete the middle railing, it will also delete the most recent railing placed, but not the first railing. Voila, you now have a one-sided railing staircase!

When layering stairs over multiple floors it seems to work a lot easier if you start at the top floor and work down so grab the stair we made and move them to the third floor. Now make a copy and place on the second floor and another copy and place on the first (ground) floor. Place your desired handrails on each floor.
