In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the Fishing Tourney event is held four times per year during each season on the second Saturday of the month in January, April, July, and October. This applies to both the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere!

After you’ve participated in the tournament once, you’ll be able to go back to CJ and sell fish to him whenever you want.
Can you time travel back to fishing tournament?
However once Resident Services is upgraded, you’ll be able to time travel back to the Fishing Tourney.

The first time you participate in the Fishing Tourney, you’ll be able to do so for free. However, every time after that, you’ll need to pay 500 Bells to participate. You must catch as many fish as possible within a three-minute window. You’ll receive points for each fish you catch during this time.
Can you catch fish at the fishing tourney in April?
The April Fishing Tourney may sometimes overlap with the Bunny Day event. When it does, we recommend avoiding medium-sized fish as these will most likely be water eggs. This will not count as fish and you will not gain points for catching these. The Fishing Tourney cannot proceed without an upgraded Resident Services.

What do you get for fishing in Animal Crossing New Horizons?
In New Horizons, the player earns points for catching fish, with the points redeemable toward fishing swag items; three trophies can also be earned for high lifetime point totals. In Animal Crossing, in June, Chip the beaver will host a fishing tournament every Sunday, where the player can win furniture for record-breaking fish.
What’s the prize for winning the Animal Crossing tournament?
The prize is the Gold Trophy. During the tournaments held on the third Saturday of the month, only specific fish will be accepted in the competition. For each of those tourneys, the specific fish is chosen at random from a potential three each month.
Can I sell fish to CJ after the tournament?
You can compete throughout the day until the clock strikes 6PM; you will not be interrupted if this happens during a round. Once it’s past 6PM, you can still sell any remaining fish in the cooler to CJ and trade in your points for items.
Do Fishing Tourney points carry over?
Any points that haven’t been used to redeem items (see Fish Swag Haul section) will carry over with the player to their island IF their fishing tournament is active on their island.
