I have a lot of time for the idea that shaking up the end game, for example with a mechanism for shop destruction, would help to keep things vibrant.

It also killed off a lot of the pillaging mentality. Sea Monsters. This further killed off pillaging, and isn’t that accessible to new players. If you’re not retaining new players, you’re gonna have a bad time.

What happens to subscription oceans in Puzzle Pirates?

Used to be really big in this game, was a Senior Office/Royalty in a major flag on Midnight and then on Cobalt. It was a series of bad decisions on OOO part. Subscription oceans started dying when they introduced the doubloon oceans.

Why are there so many Puzzle Pirates on Dubloon?

Probably a solid half of them are cheaters, the other half are the legit best players and their alts. On the dubloon oceans, the economic market was killed by labor badges. Since labor was so hard to come by, most people just made alts to do it for them, and paid shit wages.

Why was Puzzle Pirates stagnated for so long?

The upper level of the games stagnated due to little to no competitions between Flags. Super-mega alliances kept things pretty much stagnant except for the occasional rivalry between massive egos, or trouble maker flags like Notorious Fandango or Oceanus Expeditus.
