Is the Wizard101 server fixed like EverQuest?
Also, Wizard101 servers are not fixed like Everquest. In those games, which ever server you create your character on, they will stay until an employee manual moves them. In Wizard101, characters flow freely between servers. I assume that has an impact on all servers coming down at the same time.

What to do if Wizard101 is not working?
Check your internet connection. If your internet is not connected, the game will not work. Check if the game is down for maintenance. Any down times will be announced in the forum. Make sure that your anti-virus/internet security programmes are not blocking Wizard101. Or simply add Wizard101 to the allowed list.
How long does it take to patch Wizard101?
The game will automatically be patched to the current version when you log in to play for the first time. This process may take a few minutes. Further game data will be downloaded in the background whenever you enter new regions.

Now, MGI has bought another MMORPG company, picking up 100% of Kingsisle, which as readers will know owns and operates both Wizard101 and Pirate101. The press release says the purchase price was $126M, with up to $84M in earnouts if the games do well.
