A dispersal wolf is an individual who has departed from their birth pack, or is interested in leaving their birth pack. These wolves are, much like the player, in search of a mate of their own, and will generally behave in a friendly or passive manner towards the player.

The player has approximately a minute to find the calf and kill it and consume it. In multiplayer, the objectives of the game are the same with two exceptions. The player co-operates with a maximum of 8 wolves including themselves, and can have no game-sanctioned mate. (Regardless, some players still say that other players are their mates.)
